I

Kinja'd!!!

Gotta find a place to mount it somewhere but either way, finally gonna get some 1080p racing in on my 100 inch “screen” (projector on a wall). More importantly I got it for Amazon prime watching but having this game and gta v will definitely be an added bonus. Any oppo ps3 owners out there, feel free to add Duncantor5678 to your list and we can play GT6 some time.

I bought one several years ago from a guy getting out of the Corps he threw in like 20 games, but I’ve never been a PS guy, didn’t own a game system until the xbox 360 came out, lol. I still have a ps3 but i have no games for it, maybe I will make a trip to a game store to see if I can swipe some super cheap games, because free online playing

Been wanting to play NFS: shift (sequel not sure if it was unleashed or just shift 2) lately loved the way that once you upgraded the chassis for lightness it would take away parts of the interior for lightness.

I just can’t stand the way cars drive in need for speed. The only entertainment value I get out of it is the drifting events lol. Those are pretty fun. And making ludicrous ricer Escalades and shit.

That’s Underground 2, it’s a very different game.

Haha might as well at least have grand turismo. I am not much of a video game player but it was definitely the cheapest way to set up an Amazon prime box. Having games is just an extra bonus.

Sounds good, I won’t be playing a whole lot but I’ll definitely be on when it’s raining out! Thankfully I’m in the northeast so we get enough rain to give me plenty of play time lol.

Haha I didn’t realize there was more than one need for speed game, had only played underground 2 at a friend’s once. I’m not much of a gamer lol. What’s different about it? Do the brakes actually serve a purpose?

I can’t honestly say I play a whole lot either, but I’m sure we’ll occasionally cross paths. We can help you out with GTA online doing higher level missions you wouldn’t be able to play yet and whatnot.

Yup these new consoles (I’ve had a ps2 only since that came out) are pretty useful to the non-hardcore gamers too. Any true game enthusiast will build a high end gaming pc instead anyways.

There’s a LOT of Need for Speed games. Prepare for an info dump.

Kinja'd!!!

Road & Track Presents... The Need for Speed and Road & Track Presents The Need for Speed SE (1994) : The handling engine was tuned by the staff members of Road & Track Magazine.

Need for Speed II and Need for Speed II: SE (1997): Opened track design to allow shortcuts, more arcade handling.

Need for Speed: V-Rally (1997): Developed by Infogrames, allowed head-to-head competition (a first for rally games at the time), part of the NFS series in name only (EA bought the US distribution rights of V-Rally: Championship Edition).

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit (1998): Added Hot Pursuit mode, where you either outran the police or were an officer catching other racers. On PC, first game to allow modding.

Need for Speed: High Stakes (1999): First game to allow car upgrades, introduced damage models and a monetary system.

Need for Speed: V-Rally 2 (1999): Features a track editor, and all the cars and tracks from the 1999 FIA Word Rally Championship Season. Last V-Rally game distributed in North America by EA, under the NFS name. North American Dreamcast version was called Test Drive: V-Rally.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (2000): Porsches only, PC version said to have some of the most realistic handling in the series.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (2002): Debut NFS game for studio EA Black Box. First NFS for PS2/XBOX/NGC, first with licensed music, brought back Hot Pursuit mode. PS2 version by Black Box Games, XBOX/NGC/PC versions by EA Seattle. PS2 version is the definitive version.

Need for Speed Underground (2003): Developed by EA Black Box. Embraced arcade handling and “Fast and Furious” car culture, extensive vehicle modding.

Need for Speed Underground 2 (2004): Developed by EA Canada. Introduced “Free Roam” mode, continued the story mode from Underground 1, expanded the vehicle selection, available modifications, and racing modes.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Black Edition (2005): Developed by EA Canada. Large focus on police chases, continued “Free Roam” mode but reduced vehicle customization options.

Need for Speed: Carbon (2006): Developed by EA Black Box. Continued the story mode from Most Wanted, last NFS game for NGC/XBOX/GBA, reduced emphasis on fleeing police, brought back nighttime-only racing, replaced Drag mode with Canyon Duel mode, introduced “Autosculpt” which let you custom-fabricate your own parts.

Need for Speed: ProStreet (2007): Developed by EA Black Box. Brought back realistic damage and a more realistic handling model. Removed free roam and police - all races not take place on closed tracks and organized race days.

Need for Speed: Undercover (2008): Developed by EA Black Box. A return to roots, focused on free roam, tuning, and police chases. Features parts breaking off after crashes. Last PS2 NFS game.

Need for Speed: Shift (2009): Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, focused on racing simulation handling and professional race tracks.

Need for Speed: Nitro (2009): NDS and Wii exclusive, arcade gameplay and targeted at casual players. Was also released as a Facebook game.

Need for Speed: World (2010): Free-to-play Massively-Multiplayer Online racing game exclusive to Windows PC’s. Uses the gameplay style and maps from Most Wanted and Carbon.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010): Developed by Criteron Games (Burnout series). No car customization, focused on racing and police chases in a free roam map. Introduced Need for Speed Autolog, which tracked statistics and added “speedwalls” where you could compare your times versus friends. One of the best-rated games in the series.

Shift 2: Unleashed (2011): Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, used the Autolog feature. Had a more in-depth career mode and introduced night racing to the Shift series.

Need for Speed: The Run (2011): Developed by EA Black Box. Uses Autolog. Returns to street-racing roots with police chases. First NFS game to feature quick-time events and sequences with the driver on foot. Brings back vehicle customization.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012): Developed by Criterion Games. Runs Autolog 2.0. Features a free-roam map and playstyle similar to the original Most Wanted. Handling is less arcade, but definitely not simulation. Has vehicle customization.

Need for Speed Rivals (2013): Developed by Ghost Games in association with Criterion Games. Plays very similar to the 2010 Hot Pursuit game. Enhances vehicle customization options. Uses Autolog 2.0 and AllDrive for social interaction. Introduces a dynamic weather system.

Need for Speed: No Limits (2015): Android and iOS-exclusive, focused on street racing, customization, and police chases.

I’ve got 10 of those listed games. IMHO the pinnacle was High Stakes. Although I did enjoy the Shift series, one of the few AAA simulation games left.

I have several hundred hours of playing Hot Pursuit 2 with my dad. Usually he’d take the Murcielago, and I’d take the CVPI, and I’d run him down. I remember one race where no matter what I did, I couldn’t get him stopped. Tire spikes, helicopters, NOS abuse... he beat me. He earned that one. I heard about it for 6 months.

I quite enjoyed High Stakes but keeping up on repairs to the long-tail McLaren was wallet-crushingly expensive.

There’s only three racing games I’ve been able to get Dad to play with me:

Driver (PS1)

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2)

FlatOut (PS2)

I liked it mainly for the third party mods. Custom cars and tracks. Took ages before Porsche Unleashed was modable.

Wow there is quite a variety of games there. Although a heavier focus on the arcade style and police chase stuff, i do see the simulation style ones as well. I also didn't know so many of these were on pc, I had figured they were console only. Thanks for the info!
